For this version, instead of averaging the colorized map of dune edges I averaged the edges before colorizing. It must be noted that red dunes are big dunes, not ‘bad dunes’.

This is an averaged version of the previous image. It’s useful only to distinguish between big dunes, small dunes and exposed bedrock. This method has flaws when there is flat dust.

This is a piece of terrain South of Victoria Crater. I mapped the dunes (using the GIMP) by finding the edges, clearing the edges at the bright bedrock areas and blurring a bit to create smooth gradients before colorizing.
